How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Choose your photos. Drag your HEIC files into the box above, or tap Choose Files. You can select as many photos as you like.
- Wait a moment. Each photo is converted to JPG right in your browser. Larger photos may take a few seconds.
- Download. Save each JPG one by one, or click Download all to get every photo in a single ZIP file.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format Apple uses by default on iPhone and iPad since iOS 11. It keeps photos looking great at about half the file size of JPG, which saves storage space on your phone.
The downside is compatibility. Many Windows PCs, older Macs, websites, online forms and photo printing services can't open HEIC files. Converting them to JPG – the most widely supported image format in the world – solves that instantly.
Why use this converter?
Private by design
Most online converters upload your photos to their servers. This one doesn't. Everything happens inside your browser, so your personal photos stay on your device.
Batch conversion
Convert one photo or a whole vacation album at once, then download them all as a ZIP file.
Works everywhere
Use it on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Android or iPhone – no app or software to install.
Need smaller files after converting? Use Compress Image, or turn your photos into a PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?
Yes. It's completely free with no sign-up, no watermarks and no limit on the number of photos.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens entirely inside your web browser. Your photos never leave your device.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
At the default quality of 92% the difference isn't visible to the eye. You can raise the quality to 100% if you need the best possible result, for example for printing.
How do I open HEIC files on Windows?
The easiest way is to convert them to JPG with this tool. Windows can also open HEIC if you install Microsoft's HEIF Image Extensions, but JPG files will work in every app and on every website.
How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?
Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will then be saved as JPG. Existing photos stay in HEIC.
Can I convert HEIC to JPG on my iPhone?
Yes. Open this page in Safari, tap Choose Files, pick your photos, and download the converted JPGs to your Files app.
HEIC vs. JPG at a glance
| HEIC | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| File size | About half of JPG | Larger |
| Opens on Windows | Only with an extra extension | Always |
| Accepted by websites and forms | Rarely | Almost always |
| Supports Live Photos and depth data | Yes | No |
| Best for | Storing photos on iPhone | Sharing, printing, uploading |
Why do my iPhone photos show up as HEIC on my PC?
When you copy photos to a Windows PC with a cable, or download them from iCloud.com, the iPhone may hand over the original HEIC files. You can ask it to convert them automatically: on your iPhone go to Settings > Photos, scroll to Transfer to Mac or PC and choose Automatic. Photos that are already on your computer as HEIC still need converting – that's what this tool is for.
Sending photos by email or text
When you share from the Photos app, iOS usually converts photos to JPG for you. Problems tend to appear with AirDrop to a Mac, files saved from cloud storage, and photos exported in bulk. If someone tells you they "can't open" a picture you sent, converting it here and sending the JPG fixes it.
What about Live Photos?
A Live Photo is a still HEIC image plus a short video. This converter saves the still image as a JPG; the moving part isn't included.
Will converting delete my originals?
No. Nothing on your device is changed – you download new JPG copies and your HEIC files stay exactly where they were. Need smaller JPGs for an upload form? Run them through Compress Image next.
