Frequently asked questions

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Add your WebP images, choose JPG and click Convert to JPG. Each image is converted in your browser and you can download them one by one or as a ZIP.

What happens to transparent backgrounds when converting to JPG?

JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas become white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep them transparent.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser and your images never leave your device.

Can I convert animated GIFs?

Only the first frame of an animated GIF is converted, giving you a still image.

What is WebP, and why are so many images WebP now?

WebP is an image format created by Google to make websites load faster. A WebP image is typically 25–35% smaller than a JPG of the same quality, and unlike JPG it supports transparent backgrounds. That's why images you save from many websites and online stores arrive as .webp files.

The catch: some older programs, photo printing services and upload forms still don't accept WebP. Converting WebP to JPG here gives you a file that works everywhere.

Choosing the right format

Save as JPG when…

You have photos to email, print, post or upload to a form. JPG is supported by every device, app and website.

Save as PNG when…

The image has text, sharp lines or a transparent background – logos, screenshots, diagrams and icons. PNG keeps edges crisp and never adds compression artifacts.

Save as WebP when…

The image is going on your own website or online store. Smaller files mean faster pages, which helps both visitors and search rankings.

Does converting reduce quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG or WebP at the default 92% quality gives results that look identical to the original for almost all photos. Avoid converting the same image back and forth many times – each JPG save loses a little detail.

Other formats

This converter also reads GIF, BMP, AVIF and ICO files. For iPhone HEIC photos use HEIC to JPG, and to turn images into a document use JPG to PDF.
