How to use this tool
- Add your image. Drag it into the box or tap Choose Images. The 20 KB target is already set.
- Click Compress. Quality is lowered and the image is made smaller until it fits under 20 KB.
- Check it carefully. At this size, open the preview to make sure it's still clear before you download it.
What fits in 20 KB?
20 KB is very small, so the image has to be small too. It works well for images that only appear at a small size, and for simple black-and-white images:
- Scanned signatures, which some application forms ask for separately
- Small ID-style photos shown at a small size on a form
- Icons, avatars and thumbnails
It's not a good fit for a full-size photo that people will look at closely. Expect the tool to reduce its dimensions considerably. If you have the choice, use a higher limit like 50 KB or 100 KB.
How to scan a signature so it stays clear
- Sign in dark ink on plain white paper. Black or dark blue pen works best, and thick lines survive compression better than thin ones.
- Photograph it in good light. Hold your phone directly above the paper, and avoid shadows, which add detail that wastes file size.
- Crop it tightly. Remove all the blank paper around your signature. This usually helps more than anything else.
- Compress it here, then check that the preview is clear and easy to read.
PNG or JPG for very small files?
For signatures and simple graphics with just a few colors, PNG can be very compact and keeps lines clean. For photos, JPG gives you a much larger, clearer picture at 20 KB. Use Save as to try both and compare. If the form only accepts one type, choose that one.
Forms may also set a minimum size or exact pixel dimensions, so check the instructions. Resize Image can set exact dimensions before you compress.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reduce a signature to 20 KB?
Crop your signature tightly so there is little blank paper around it, add it on this page, and click Compress. Check the preview to make sure that it's still clear.
Can a normal photo be compressed to 20 KB?
Yes, but the tool will need to make it much smaller in pixels. That works for small on-screen display, but not for printing or viewing large.
Why is my 20 KB image so small in pixels?
At very low file sizes, reducing quality alone isn't enough, or the image would turn blocky. Reducing the dimensions keeps what remains looking cleaner.
Is it safe to compress my signature here?
Yes. The image is processed in your browser and never uploaded, so your signature stays on your device.
